youthman(29) dishes out his debut on tpg, comprised of seven cuts that yo-yo between revamped breaksy house tropes, sample-heavy intricacies and lo-lidded ethereality. maintaining a fine balance between danceability and daydreaming, untitled holds its listener in a hazed-out hypnagogic state of body-&-mind symbiosis that’s best suited for moments of transition and sense-awakening, when the lights begin to flicker and the club seems to fold up in a strange, otherworldly halo of sorts.

warsaw based duo private press join rekids special projects this july with four deep techno cuts entitled ‘zero sum ep’. hailing from poland, adam brocki and jan wóycicki make up private press – a project that’s released sought after cuts on labels like technosoul and indigo aera. the duo is also known by the name raw feelings, however many will be familiar with brocki’s newborn jr. alias, which has dropped releases on rhythm section, echovolt, dopeness galore and les yeux orange. ‘miracle man sets the tone with delayed resonant synths accompanied by crunchy and distorted snares before ‘becomes the prime’ opts for a lo-fi sound with filtered synth blips and enigmatic vocal slices. on the flip side ‘tooms’ delivers heavily reverberated horn-like stabs, modulated synth lines and an underpinning bass that rumbles throughout as ‘clan’ offers a fast paced cut with high pitched whistling that echoes alongside a thumping kick drum and organic percussion to bring the package to a close..

“struggle artist” is the new album from justin c. meyers, the minneapolis-based composer, artist, and head of the sympathy ltd. label. meyers is a unique, underappreciated talent in contemporary electronic music. his greatest strengths are twofold: his compositions have a meticulous structural logic, revealing a hermetic and austere formalism, concurrently, his compositions have a deep, introspective narrativity grounded in his lived experience, evoked with a mature clarity. together, they make meyers one of the most interesting electronic musicians working with cutting-edge sonics today, unlocking their latent powers of metaphor and figuration. his previous album, 2016’s “negative space (1981–2014)”, deals with the onset of chronic illness and near-death experience. its careful, anechoic meditations on the failing body are a resounding achievement, and the album remains a high watermark of acousmatic music in the 21st century. “struggle artist” portrays meyers’ expectations and disappointments arising from making art in his free time. created initially during lunch breaks and in hospital waiting rooms, and finished after being laid off from his job, it catalogues the despondency of the precarious life. if “negative space” was about the fallible body, “struggle artist” is its violent collision with late capitalism.

we here at french press lounge are very pleased to share our latest release by florida-born, california based producer and professor neoprene with a debut 12” titled “possibility spaces”.
propelled by pure state aesthetics, spatial theoretics and a fondness of ferns, neoprene (amongst several other musical monikers and permutations) has been crafting and perfecting outer-world electronics since 2011 through their highly slept-upon digital and cassette label ashtar communications. “possibility spaces” is their debut 12”, a collection of cherry picked tracks created in chicago during their barista residency of 2015 - heavy points of dark matter gliding across a delicate, semi-permeable surface of unidentified experience. where others simply trawl the tropes of a rave culture gone by, neoprene bends into the best assets of house, hardcore and breaks and pulls up through a dense fog of floral new age ambience, creating a one-of-a-kind approach to expository techno.

christina vantzou and john also bennett’s musical interpretation of thoughts of a dot as it travels a surface, a 90m panoramic wall drawing by zin taylor, is a beautiful electro-acoustic meditation on the passage of time. it was recorded live at westfälischer kunstverein in münster, germany, may 6th, 2017, and now finds its way onto vinyl via the supremely keen-eared shelter press.

musique hydromantique is the second solo album by tomoko sauvage, archiving many years of performance-based practice on the waterbowls - the natural synthesizer of her invention, composed with porcelain bowls filled with water and amplified via hydrophones (underwater microphones).

redstone press is a new label from the highlands of scotland born out of long nights on homegrown soundsystems pushing the uk scene, with a unique northern edge that comes from the freedom and isolation felt in that part of the world. red001 compromises of three eclectic bass-driven cuts from delphic producer pseudopolis. the a side pulls no punches, pointing you front left with arpeggiated synths on at last and artillery like percussion on tracer. we can all groove is a grittier but more subtle workout on the reverse.

for the past two decades, ivan smagghe has perfected the art of making spaced-out clubbers dance, has ridden a fine line and run his label les disques de la mort. rupert cross is a london-based composer who has worked with michael finissy and julian anderson as well as writing music for television and theatre. before/after ma, an album which sat on the fringes of experimental music passed through an industrial particle accelerator. s&c give you the tracks codenamed timothy dalton (according to ivan, the laser sound in the track reminded us of flash gordon). neither pop, nor psychedelic, nor ambient, nor house, nor techno, nor post punk nor even new wave are spared, but none are singled out. to nurture this proto-album, the duo also called upon the talents of tim felton, the outstanding guitarist from the cult band broadcast.

a seriously jittery slab of hardcore raver material, this is perhaps fpl s most robust roast yet: filtered thru the heady history of classic 90’s hardcore techno and peak time trance euphorias, caffeine’s tracks showcase a viciously deft arrangement sensibility, utilizing a revolving door of precisely cut breaks, bubbly, effervescent pads and synth melodies, creamy sub-bass and loads of crispy vocal signifiers, imagine if the rza had listened to lots of orbital and early trance records and made this after liquid swords and you’re almost there.

sliding into french press lounge’s second 12” in a reasonably priced used car on rain-soaked tarmac is hollywood, fl producer saki. known for his famously crispy, nearly-obliterated sound and rude-dude attitude, saki pulls down the gain (and the sun shades) to provide four hazy coastal house tools fit to blast over the comm system above the lazy river, relying on a no-frills hardware setup (homie needs floppy discs to even play a track!) and a rough-and-ready live recording policy, complete with abrupt endings.

it was in june of 1980. after a long and intense journey through time and space, rupert marnie met spiritual highness frater loannis and became his apprentice. the magus told him invaluable things, like controlling his precious bodily fluids and the holistic mastery of others’ endocrine glands. the greatest wisdom though reached him on his seventh day, when frater loannis professed him an an-cient ritual that would allow him to meet the titan ufohagen, also known as cdboy. it was the 4th, when he appeared, dressed in a long, slim silk cloak, a sprinkling wand in his right. rupert stood in awe, immediately losing his newly gained fluid control, and started crafting a piece of music, that would remind mankind that not all is lost, as long as there is almighty ufohagen.

this is an official reissue of what am i gonna do for fun by the band pitch (1982 - new york city). this release also includes a fantastic remix or rework by tolouse low trax (toresch, salon des amateurs, düsseldorf). a few words from stuart shape, the producer: feels like it was done by another person. i remember getting the serge synthetiser to stay in tune was always a problem. we were fascinated with the new sampling that were just coming out, and kind of got carried away on the vocals. not sure what i was thinking about with the lyrics, guess maybe trying to figure out what i was supposed to be doing when i wasnt working or playing music unfortunately no other finished tracks from that era have survived. they recorded a lot, but finished and saved very little.
